Approached with the first generation console, I was given the task of rethinking the architecture for second generation. With the evolving hardware and subsequent design changes necessary, the UX of each interaction point had to be rethought.

The constraints of operating room helped define the overall form and CMF. Seamless flowing gesture from the base to the boom grounds the Console while also allowing for easy-to-clean surfaces. The curved termination to the arms brings lightness to the hovering elements. Special attention was necessary to hold ID intent while incorporating medical-grade OTS products.

Reveal of blue on the arms and the inner mast become delightful surprises as well as a reinforcement of brand color.

CMF break helps to lighten up the mass of the base. The color split from front to back separates the operator & surgery sides. Material selection withstands abuse and provides reliable experience through high-tolerance metal parts and robust construction.
